The most common repair we do
No contest: the doorknob hole is the number one wall repair in America, and Waldorf is no exception. A door swings open too hard — no door stop, or a door stop that broke off years ago — and the knob punches straight through the drywall. Kids' bedrooms, hallways, bathrooms. We fix several of these every single week.
Close behind: furniture impacts (moving day couch corners), elbow-through-the-wall accidents going down stairs, and the occasional indoor sports incident. The cause does not matter. The fix is the same.
How we make a hole vanish
Small holes (doorknob size and smaller). We cut the ragged hole into a clean shape, fit a drywall patch, tape the edges, and build up three coats of mud — each wider than the last so the repair feathers into the surrounding wall. Sanded smooth, texture matched.
Big holes (fist size and up). Same idea, bigger scale: the patch gets screwed to wood backing we install inside the wall so it cannot flex or crack later. Large patches get the same three-coat treatment.
Two visits. Mud needs drying time between coats — anyone who patches, muds, sands, and paints in one visit is skipping steps you will see later. Visit one: patch and first coats. Visit two: final coat, sand, texture. That is the job done right.
Stop it happening again
After we fix your doorknob hole, do the five-dollar thing: put a door stop on. The hinge-pin kind costs a few dollars, installs in a minute, and prevents the next hole. We will even tell you which kind to buy. Fixing the same hole twice because nobody installed a door stop is the most avoidable repeat repair there is.
What about the paint?
We leave every patch sanded, sealed, primed, and paint-ready. For a truly invisible result the wall wants a fresh coat — a dab of touch-up paint over a patch almost always shows. We do not paint (drywall only, remember), but the wall is ready the moment we leave.
A note on prices: every job needs different work, and material and labor costs move around. Treat any numbers here as starting points, not quotes. The written price we give you after our free visit is the real number for your project.
A standard doorknob hole typically starts in the low hundreds as a rough starting range. Multiple holes or large damage runs higher. Your free written estimate is the real number.
