The three finishes you will choose between
- Smooth. Flat, clean, modern. Shows paint color best — and shows flaws most, so the mud work underneath has to be excellent.
- Orange peel. A fine dimpled texture, like the skin of an orange. Forgiving of minor flaws; the most common finish in newer Maryland homes.
- Knockdown. Bolder — sprayed texture flattened with a knife, giving a mottled stucco-like pattern. Common in many Charles County homes.
Matching matters most on repairs
The number-one rule of texture: match what is there. A smooth patch in an orange-peel wall flashes like a sign under paint. We match your existing finish on every repair so patches vanish. This is the test of a real drywall crew.
Retexturing a whole room
Sometimes the goal is a new look — flattening heavy texture to smooth, or adding knockdown for character. Whole-room retexturing means skim-coating or re-spraying every wall, and it transforms a space. It is dusty work; we seal the room and control the dust.
Popcorn ceilings
Removing dated popcorn texture from ceilings is its own job — scraping, refinishing, and retexturing flat. See popcorn ceiling removal.
